Day 5 - Figure it Out

Before we started this whole thing, I gave Matt my best pitch for why I thought it was important for the girls to spend this time with as little direction from us as possible. Attempting to micromanage every hour in the day that they spend will not only be draining for us, but will rob them of the chance to build critical problem solving skills... what to do when you're bored! When I hear whining of boredom, I reply with a "figure it out."

Tensions do feel raised a bit this morning, which I think stems from their complete lack of interest in taking any personal responsibility for their messes, even after repeated requests and now I'm resorting to yelling!! I certainly hope that my goal of getting them to be more responsible for how they spend their time will extend to taking ownership over their stuff! So much stuff, left behind, everywhere.

Matt ended-up setting an alarm and going to the store the moment it opened in order to get some of the essentials. Which, was a success, even with the signs limiting amounts that people can purchase at a time. So far, the only thing we can't seem to get is children's tylenol, but he actually found it at the Ace Hardware/Pharmacy.

Generally, we've been leaning-in to sleeping without an alarm and making our way to our computers to start our work days. Working out when we can fit it in and generally enjoying doing projects as they come about naturally. It does feel a bit freeing and I hope will continue, even if the tensions increase.
