I had my post-partum follow-up appointment this AM and it was interesting to discuss this process in retrospect from an OB perspective (as they are not involved with the NICU). The doctor I saw today was the first Attending whom I saw when my water first broke and who also diagnosed my post-surgery reaction to the adhesive (in the lobby of the Birthing Center). He knew that I have a 3-year-old who was full-term (41 weeks, in fact!) and commented on the less than 5% chance that I had to have premature rupture of membranes, especially so early in the pregnancy, after having a full-term baby! Matt would say that I should play the lottery. Additionally, he asked how Cora was doing and, specifically, about her neural ultrasounds, of which, both were completely clear - he said that was the most important thing and it's wonderful news! I was thrilled for a great Kangaroo and great decision in rounds to do absolutely nothing, because she's doing so well... weighing almost 2lbs, 8oz!
I'm impressed with myself for taking this picture of myself while kissing my baby and holding her hand! Pure joy... it's crazy how thrilling it is to hold your child, smell her sweet little head and just melt from the awe of this whole process of bringing life into this world. I cannot wait for more of these moments.
I recall them dearly like they were yesterday with Stella, who has now begun melting my heart by telling me how much she loves me, giving me big hugs and kisses and her general excitement to be a big sister! We will be counting forever for all the blessings we have received.
