1725grams - 3lbs 13oz - This is a nice gain, for our Step Forward.
Well, Cora is being treated for a potential infection with antibiotics, which means an IV was placed in her head, again. This ended up being the best location for her, so that she would not get stuck too many times. Her provider does not think she really has an infection, and instead thinks she is reacting to the vaccines that she recently received.

- Interesting note that she receives her vaccines on her actual age schedule, rather than her adjusted age.
- If she does have an infection, it is important to treat it early, and her white blood cell count did increase from yesterday and she did have a little vomiting episode while I was there, but both are possible reactions to vaccines too.
- If her urine culture comes back clean, then she will receive antibiotics for 2 days.
Step Back #2: Nasal Cannula is back, after being off almost 2 weeks! The cannula came back because she continues to have periodic breathing and the tachypnia has hung on too long. She is on diuretics and they have not done the trick for her, alone. There are worse things than adding back the cannula. We believe she was just not quite ready to come off when she did, so she just needs it now for a short time (maybe a week?), to help her expand her lungs a bit more and quit all the shallow quick breathing.
I look forward to the next post being a bit more positive! I know we are still in a good place, and I will focus on that, but I am quite tired of the ups and downs, and the unknown homecoming date, still.
I remember these ups and downs all too well! My thoughts are with you, little Cora, and the rest of your family. You've probably heard this, but having just gone through I'll still share: it felt like Alannah was NEVER going to leave the NICU. There'd be one more little problem. One more thing to overcome. But, like Alannah did, Cora will get there! Just wanted to let you know, there is a great group on Facebook called "Micro preemie moms" and I've found them to be very supportive-- you know, in case you want more support (when I know all you want is for Cora to come home healthy ASAP-- because that's all I wanted!). Wishing you strength and peace-- Lisa
