Cora Flies Out of Duke Hospital with her Angel Wings

I bought this shirt thinking I could wear it for kangaroo time in the hospital. It did not work out too well for my fragile little preemie, while in the hospital, but it was our perfect get-away shirt. She also wore this onsie that had the cutest angel wings on the back. It was a long day, but it was our day!

Wednesday, Matt and I spent the night with Cora in the Care by Parent Room in the ICN. We had to get practice with her equipment: 1) NG tube and Pump - we each had to insert 3 NG tubes and check for placement and used the pump overnight, 2) Apnea Monitor - to be used when she is getting her tube feedings for the risk of her pulling it when we're not looking and potentially aspirating her lungs, and 3) Nebulizer for two drugs administered together every 12 hours.

Thursday, our scheduled discharge day, was held-up because of her eye exam. The Opthamologist needed to examine her in the hospital one more time, because she was still at risk for needing laser treatment and the doctors did not want to discharge her if she was going to be re-admitted. I would be remiss to include the detail that the communication from Opthamology was delayed and it felt like our delay was due to an administrative reason, rather than Cora's health interests. I was rather burnt up by this.

Friday, I'm so grateful to say that the Attending Physician pulled some strings to get an eye exam scheduled that day, but it did mean that we had to wait until 4:30pm and whether or not we could leave depended on the outcome of the eye exam....
