Wow - I'm still processing/preparing for home, mentally. I've become so accustomed to being a NICU mom. I have my routine; I know what to do for her, now. I know Matt feels the same way. We spent the weekend working with the Attending Physician and preparing for a Sunday or Monday (next week) discharge date. Today, a new Attending came on and he's ready to discharge her earlier! I'm so relieved. She is coming home in 3 days!!!! (Assuming she doesn't act up)
We are scheduled to spend the night at the hospital with Cora in the family room on Wednesday night and then, we get to bring her home on Thursday, her 4-Month birthday!
Since we are still working on oral feedings, she is coming home with an NG tube (a feeding tube), this is still 100 times better than a G-tube (which is placed surgically), and it means that her providers believe that she will not need the NG tube for very long (about a month). She has no medical reason to stay in the hospital. The Attending Physician is still determining what equipment is needed at home... will she need a monitor too? I sincerely hope not.
