Dealing with the Unknown

Overall, Cora's health remains great, clinically. However, we've been concerned about her high electrolyte counts (BUN & Creatinine). Even after removing the diuretics and milk fortifiers and putting her on hydrocortisone, her BUN & Creatinine continue to raise, over the last few days. The Doctor, in rounds, today, said that he's not quite sure what it is, but that he's sure it is NOT acute kidney failure. WHEW! The Nurse said that she thinks that likely adrenal insufficiency (a typical Preemie issue, one that she will grow out of... I really hope so, with all of my heart). They are assessing her for a potential UTI, which would be easy to treat, but it's been a challenge to collect a clean sample, since her bowels move so frequently. This seems somewhat unlikely, since she's not showing other signs of infection and her white blood cell count has not increased from today's CBC. All I can do is hope that her BUN & Creatinine levels begin to respond/lower to the hydrocortisone... preferably ASAP, please!!!

Separate, less concerning issue: CPAP is still around... she's just not ready, yet, for nasal cannula.

I'll have an honorary RN after all this, ay!?

Stella is learning about "Celebrations" this week in school... maybe she will be able to help plan an awesome celebration for Cora's homecoming!?
